Pipe back slightly curved blade with quill point. “Gothic” folding guard section hilt with George IV cypher to the hilt’s cartouche. Dates from 1822 to 1830. Plain (now) blade; no surviving maker’s / retailer’s mark.
The plain 28 1/4 inch period sharpened pipe back blade with quill point has a nick to the cutting edge but is otherwise good (some age staining) and firm in the hilt. The brass gothic hilt with folding guard section is aged but good. The fishskin grip has wear and discoloration (liquid shoe polish is often used to improve), plus the section under the pommel (area subject to the most wear) has worn away; the twisted grip wire bindings are present but some lesser strands a little wayward, especially near the pommel (again, a sure sign the sword has been held tightly and often). The leather with brass fittings scabbard has both suspension rings and frog button and is in good condition for 200 years old, but the bottom fitting (chape) is absent (they do come up for sale now and again). The sword sheathes and draws well.
