Engraved / inscribed to Chatellerault August 1916 on the spine of the blade.
The plain twin fullered period sharpened 37 inch blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The ornate brass hilt / guard with some age dulling is in very good condition. The walnut grip with some minor wear and small chip is good, as are the twisted grip wire bindings (some old brass cleaner evident – can be easily removed). The steel scabbard has small light inert rust patches throughout but is good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
