Massive 38 1/2 inch straight blade, Klingenthal inscription to spine (date rubbed), poinçons to Mancel, Bick and Lobstein dates it to 1822/1823. Rack / weapon number “776” to the hilt, “476” to the scabbard’s upper suspension mount. A scarce beast of a sword with true / actual 1822 blade (not an AN XIII or m1816 blade given a new model hilt).
The 38 1/2 plain blade has age (Light small rust patches and rub marks) but is very good and firm in the hilt. The original leather grip is aged / worn but good; the original twisted grip wire bindings have been replaced with a more recent style). The heavy hilt / guard with age (dulling tarnish; easily brightened if desired) is very good. The heavy steel scabbard has been blackened some time ago, perhaps period, and is in good condition. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Scarce, very impressive true early Klingenthal m1822 French heavy cavalry of the line example in very good condition for its age. Bargain hunters, look! was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference ZZ89. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1799-121x19x16 (3.076).
