Matching serial numbers? It appears the guy that stamped the blade and scabbard at the Imperial Japanese Kokura arsenal got the 6 or 9 upside down on one; it has serial number 76114 to the blade and 79114 to the saya / scabbard; look closely and you can see they are the same digit, we think a “6” (he or she got the 6 for the scabbard upside down)! It is too much of a coincidence otherwise.
The 26 1/4 inch blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt / tsuka. The tsuka has lost most of its copper coloured paint but is in good condition. The saya / scabbard is in good condition. The sword sheathes and draws well; the locking mechanism works well and locates / holds onto the saya.
Very good example and a talking point feature! Great buy at was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference ZZ72. Full sized / additional photos available upon request. Box 1725-110x15x14 (2.135)
