Black fishskin grip for a junior officer (e.g. sub-lieutenant); these are much scarcer then the white fishskin lieutenant+ Royal Navy officer’s swords. This one etched to retailer “J Friedeberg Portsea” at the forte / ricasso, comes with original scabbard and sword knot.

The 31 1/2 inch very well etched blade is in good condition with minimal wear and is firm in the hilt. The brass hilt / guard has some gilt remaining / is in very good condition. The black fishskin grip is in very good condition, a little aged / faded; the associated twisted grip wire bindings are good, a couple of lesser strands are very slightly astray. The leather and brass fittings scabbard is good / a little aged, a small dent / kink near the chape. The sword sheathes and draws well.
A really good example of a fairly scarce sword in well above average condition. A bargain! Yours for £550. Please quote item reference ZZ62. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1721-101x15x14 (1.640)
