OK, so British Japanese sword expert Bill Tagg, has assessed this to be an earlier Azuchi-Momoyama Period (1573-1603) rare and valuable blade by Horikawa Kunihiro (see very last image), but we do not believe so. You can make up your own mind, but we are selling it purely as an Edo period wakizashi signed “Kunihiro”. You can maybe pick which Kunihiro it possibly was by researching here. The blade clearly has considerable age.
The 17 1/2 inch nagasa (cutting edge section) blade is in aged / worn condition with a light pitting here and there. Firm in the tsuka (grip / handle). Quality furniture (tsuba, fuchi, menuki, etc.); the blade collar (fuchi) is worn / slightly damaged but sound. The saya with some age is good. The kozuka (small side knife) is missing. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Whether a valuable Horikawa Kunihiro or an old other Kunihiro, in any event, well worth was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference ZZ53. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1700-73x15x14 (1.014)
