Guaranteed authentic; not a post war reproduction or a later Chinese police version. These swords were used extensively by Imperial Japanese sergeants and even lower ranks during World War Two. Serial number to the blade is 100356.

The 30 1/4 inch period sharpened blade is in good condition, patina streaks throughout, with one ominous period nick to the cutting edge, firm in the hilt and grip. The steel hilt in good shape with a steady patina and light speckled pitting. The checkered wooden grip is worn from use and has a small sectional chip / loss under the pommel (this is the area of grip that gets the most wear / force applied), again indicating a harsh active service life. The steel scabbard again testifies to an active service life with period dings, but is sound if not overall good. The sword sheathes and draws well, the locking pin mechanism works and holds the scabbard.
A very good example at a great price, £500. Please quote item reference ZZ52. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1703-101x15x14 (1.978)
