Etching to the blade feint but still visible. The scabbard possibly a later replacement though it correctly has a frog bar not suspension rings. The 1786 pattern is the same as the later 1796 pattern except the 1786P has a fixed / sold shell guard, while the 1796P has a folding inner shell section to prevent fraying of the officer’s uniform.
The 32 3/4 inch period sharpened blade is in aged but sound to good condition, a couple of period nicks, and firm in the hilt and grip. The solid brass shell guard is a little aged but good. The twisted wire bound grip is complete and good. The leather and steel fittings scabbard maybe a later replacement because it is very good for being over 200 years old. The sword sheathes and draws well.
