Although the date inscription to the blade’s spine is feint, we can tell from the blade forte’s poinçons (the K under star poinçon of inspector Joseph Innocent Krantz) that this cutlass dates from 9th March 1812 to 31st July 1814. The cutting edge of the blade has a section of period (no burring or bright metal) violent use. The guard has been period punched markings “BN” over “10”, probably a ship or port location and weapon number.

The 26 3/4 inch blade is aged but in good condition, some small inert rust spots and scrapes, save for the section that has seen some violent use, and firm in the large half bowl guard / hilt. The iron hilt / guard and grip are aged but in good condition. No scabbard.
These don’t come onto the market that often, so grab it quick at just was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference ZZ38. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1690-89x15x14 (1.527)
