No maker’s or retailer’s name to forte / ricasso but genuine rayskin / fishskin grip, so likely mid WW2. Engraved on a scabbard locket “D. Burford from C.B.A.”. We know CBA was (Lieutenant-Commander) Conway Benning Allen because several of his / his family’s items were in the same auction and were disclosed as his. We know very little about D. Burford however, except he was a Lieutenant Air Engineering Officer on the aircraft carrier HMS Centaur in 1965 and died on the 14th February 1982.
Most people would consider this sword to be in parade ground condition.

The very well etched 31 1/2 inch blade is in very good condition (some small patina patches towards the point) and is firm in the hilt and grip. The hilt / guard in very good condition with virtually all gilt remaining. The white fishskin grip is in very good clean condition, as are the associated twisted grip wire bindings. The sword knot has a little fraying but not much and is very clean and in good condition. The leather and brass fittings scabbard is very good, some residual on the leather should clean off. The sword sheathes and draws well; the folding guard section works well and locates properly onto the scabbard’s top locket’s retaining pin. The all weather carry bag is a little aged but good.
Very nice sword in excellent condition and begging for research! Just £800. Please quote item reference ZZ36. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1688-108x15x14 (1.980)
