Wilkinson had the contract with Gieves, a major naval outfitter / supplier, to make their edged weapons. This fine WW2 era RN midshipman’s dirk with scabbard and sword knot has the original officer’s initials to the top locket of the scabbard, “J. F. W. H.”; researcher collectors, this one is for you!
The exceptionally well grey / gray etched 18 1/4 inch blade is in very good condition, some tiny tiny pricks / small light patches of patina, and firm in the grip / hilt. The hilt in very good shape. The white fishskin grip is a little grubby and a couple of the lesser twisted grip wire binding strands are a little astray, but good overall. The sword knot a little grubby and worn with age is still good. The leather and brass fittings scabbard is good. The dirk sheathes and draws well.
Really nice example and researchable! Yours for was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference ZZ34. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1691-68x15x14 (1.100)
