By decent (proof / evidence available in extra images by request), this is the sword of Lieutenant – Captain York McLeod Cleeves, a very distinguished RNR officer who saw active service in both world wars. Read about him / his naval history here, here, here and here.
Etched to J R Gaunt & Son Ltd late Edward Thurkle London & Birmingham, serial number 14861, most likely for 1919 (see his naval history).
The 31 1/4 inch blade is in good condition but with some wear and small patina patches. Blade firm in the hilt. The hilt guard with quite good gilt remaining is in good shape; the folding guard section works well and locates as it should on the retaining pin of the scabbard’s top fitting. Sword knot aged and corn missing. Leather and brass scabbard in good condition for its age. The sword sheathes and draws well.
RNR swords are rare enough but one belonging to such distinguished officer with an impressive active naval career for just was £? (too late, now sold)?! Please quote item reference ZZ09. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1650-101x15x14 (1.737).
