Guaranteed authentic; not a post war reproduction or a later Chinese police version (these have green plastic grips). These swords were used extensively by Imperial Japanese sergeants and even lower ranks during World War Two. Serial number to the blade and scabbard is 78254, so it saw a lot of the war. Matching serial numbers made even better by the leather thumb loop still present inside the guard.
The 30 1/4 inch period sharpened blade is in good condition, plus firm in the hilt and grip. The steel hilt / guard in good shape generally. The checkered wooden grip is worn from use and has very small patches of surface loss but is generally good. The steel scabbard has a small ding one side and general wear, but is also good. The sword sheathes and draws well, the locking pin mechanism works and holds the scabbard.
