Iconic Georgian / Victorian British light cavalry officer’s sword with wide flared 3 bar guard, pipe back blade with quill point; 1821 to 1844. The grip tells a story of being held in action, the wear under the pommel especially.
The 34 3/4 inch period sharpened blade has wear and some pitting but is still good and firm in the hilt. The steel hilt / guard is brown with patina and good. The fishskin grip with dry shrinkage related edge gaps and wear, especially under the steep / stepped pommel, is still generally good. The twisted silver metal grip wire bindings are present but worn and a little wayward in places. The steel field service scabbard is well patinated amd has some pitting but is good in an aged way. The sword sheaths and draws well if a tad loosely.
Great example that has clearly seen action. Nice buy at £650. Please quote item reference ZY91. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1962 107 x 15 x 16 (1.88).
