Circa 1804. 28 Inch blade for an infantry flank officer. Ivory grip for a senior officer.
NB: We will provide the ivory registration permit reference to the buyer.
The 28 inch blade has feint traces of the once vivid etching, is in otherwise good condition and firm in the hilt. The brass hilt / stirrup guard has lost its gilt finish but is in good condition. The wonderful aged yellow ivory grip has one longer and a few lesser hairline cracks (to be expected with a 200+ year old item), but is still very good. The associated silver metal twisted grip wire bindings are present and correct. The leather with brass fittings scabbard is aged and has shrunk a little, but remains good; the sword sheaths and draws well but not quite fully due to the leather drying and thereby shrinking a little.
What a stunning Napoleonic Wars British infantry sword at a very attractive price of £1000. Please quote item reference ZY90. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1959 98 x 18 x 16 (1.877).
