With war time colours and regimental markings. The war time guard browning was chemically done by Wilkinson. The same bowl guard had camouflage paint as well, put there by the regiment. The camouflage paint to the front of the bowl guard has gone, but remains inside the guard; unfortunately, this same paint makes determining the regimental markings difficult. The main regimaental markings to the inside of that bowl guard appear to be “I or 1 or L” “S K”, but we can find no match in our markings book; researchers, please oblige if you can! Dated at the blade’s forte “3 15” for March 1915, this sword clearly entered active service as the blade’s point has been period sharpened.
The 35 inch blade is in good conditon, the odd small / minor patch of patina, nothing much, and is firm in the hilt. The steel bowl guard is in good condition, some light inert rust pitting. The composite grip is good but has patches of wear commensurate with active use. The steel scabbard, also chemically browned and with patina, is good but has several minor dings, again commensurate with active use. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Great example of an iconic sword, regimentally marked, and by Wilkinson Sword in well above average condition for £600. Please quote item reference ZY63. Further / full sized images available uponn request. Box 1903 (3.037) 116 x 21 x 23.
