You don’t see many of these! Etched to retailer J Daniels & Co Ltd of 1 Artillery Place Woolwich (London) and the 20th London Regiment who saw very active service during World War One; this sword looks very much as it served with its officer owner on the front lines.
The 32 3/8 inch blade has wear and several patches of patina but is still good, the important etched areas clear, and firm in the hilt. The plated steel hilt has small patches / sections of plating loss / light rust but is still good. The black fishskin grip and associated twisted grip wire bindings are good. The leather field service scabbard has hard wear, scuffs and some loses (the chape especially) but is sound. The sword sheathes and draws well.
A rare sword at a rare low price; £600. Please quote item reference ZY61. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1911 107 x 15 x 16 (2.008)
