Scarce to rare model / pattern of a sword for an officer of the Royal Navy at the time when England was establishing itself as the world’s naval super power / the American Revolutionary War (US War of Independence). Not perfect condition, to say the least with a damaged knucklebow and a period nick to the cutting edge of the blade (which may be related to the partial loss of the knucklebow).
The 25 1/2 inch blade has ptting and patina throughout, plus a period nick, plus a perod repair towards the point, all of which suggests the original officer owner was involved in a sword fight, and survived. The spiral ribbed grip probably had a fishskin layer once; what remains is in aged yet sound condition. The pommel with engraved fouled anchor shows this to be a naval, not army officer’s sword. The guard is as seen, with a sectional loss. Scabbard absent.
