A rare example marked to Hugo Baruch & Cie Kommandit Gesellschaft (“Limited Partnership”) Berlin. Hugo Baruch was a Jewish owned theatrical supplier (a very big one) that diversified into weapons proper circa 1910. Rare because not many Germans held onto Jewish made anything from the late 1920’s onwards and the former German Imperial Navy was a little shamed / the Kaiser not popular. We know this is not a stage prop sword (Baruch did make them in Victorian times) as it is a regulation pattern with the Kaiser’s crown to the guard. The black celluloid grip was a feature of Baruch’s swords; the austere plain blade speaks volumes of the realities for Germany at the end of WW1.

The plain 31 1/2 inch blade has plenty of patina patches but is in good condition and firm in the hilt. The solid (no folding guard section) brass hilt has a little distortion but is in good condition. The black celluloid grip is good. The leather and brass scabbard has a small kink and general age / wear but is quite good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Rare example at a scarce low price of £550. Please quote item reference ZY57. Further / full sized images upon request. Box 1922 100 x 15 x 16 (1.569).
