Signed simply “Kanetsugu” with no Seka / Showa stamps and with obvious Gendaito qualities. Kanetsugu was a renowned medium to high grade Gendaito blade smith.
Imai Kanetsugu’s real name was Kenzaburo Imai. He lived in Minamimaki Village, Kanra County, Gunma Prefecture. He was a student of Matsunaga Kaneyuki. During World War Two, Imai Kanetsugu worked as an army commissioned swordsmith. He died on February 6, 1971 at the age of 77.



The 27 inch nagasa (cutting edge section) high quality blade is in good condition, a very small nick to the cutting edge, firm in the tsuka / hilt. The “furniture” (gunto fittings), well, not the best, but honest and authentic; photos tell all. The sword sheathes and draws well.
