Refurbished with a later (possibly Victorian) replacement blade (bearing the King George III/IV royal cypher); no maker’s / retailer’s name etched to the blade either side. The sword hilt and grip are original. The scabbard may have been refurbished but appears otherwise original. This pattern (model) of sword was produced and in service well into the Napoleonic Wars despite there being an 1803P which many believe was a field service pattern (despite having dress examples).
This sword has the / it’s original hilt / guard / grip and benefited from a very well executed refurbishment including replacement blade.
The 31 5/8 inch etched blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The hilt / guard is in good but aged condition; the folding section works well. Twisted wire grip a little aged but still there and sound. The late 18C pattern (no centre band, no suspension rings, solely a frog button for suspension) leather and brass scabbard is in good condition. The sword sheathes and draws well.
A good looking sword at a snip of a price: was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference ZY40. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1866 98x11x11 (1.419).
