Correctly engraved (not laser cut) “Manfre Rle du Klingenthal Avril 1816” to the blade’s spine with correct Poinçons for Borson, Bick and Lobstein to the forte, this is a guaranteed authentic French An XIII Cuirassier (Heavy Cavalry) Trooper’s sword and scabbard. It is such good condition because it was made post Waterloo (so it has never seen combat action) and was replaced by the French m1816 very shortly after it was made.
The almighty 37 3/4 inch blade is in very good condition (has been converted from hatchet to spear point by the regiment it served as per the French general order of 1815 to improve its puncturing ability) and firm in the hilt. The gorgeous iconic heavy brass 3 bar guard / hilt is in very good condition. The original leather grip is in excellent condition save for a little service wear to the forward top; twisted grip wire bindings present and correct. The original solid heavy steel scabbard is very good, some slight damage inside the throat from drawing / sheathing is nonetheless very good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
It is virtually impossible to buy original An XIIIs like this in such good condition, you best be quick! Price: was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference ZY27. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1852 121x19x16 (2.920).
