No maker’s or retailer’ name etched to the forte / ricasso, so likely circa 1917 / 1918 when production priorities outweighed normal fine detail. But, none the less, a quality sword; serial number 02745; brass proof stud with letter “s”.
The 32 1/4 inch blade is well etched with GRV (George 5th) royal cyphers to both sides, in very good condition (some staining which may well come off with careful TLC) and firm in the hilt and grip. The plated steel hilt / guard in very good condition. The fishskin (possibly faux) is in very good condition, as are the associated twisted grip wire bindings. Leather sword knot and field service scabbard with some age / scuffs / wear, are good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
One of the best condition authentic GRV / WW1 era swords we have seen. Well worth was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference ZY23. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1831 106x14x14 (1.69).
