Engraved Klingenthal manufactured Imperial August 1813 with correct date poinçons to Krantz, Bick and Lobstein. This is a scarce guaranteed original and authentic (be warned, very well made fakes / reproductions dominate the market) Napoleonic / Imperial French An XI Light Cavalry Trooper’s sword / sabre. Almost certainly a Battle of Waterloo (100 Days War) British war trophy bring back as there are no post 1815 markings, which there would be if the sabre / saber stayed in French service.
The sword has a replacement original heavy steel scabbard as the old sword rack / serial number has been checked out, but the new sword rack number, 2727, matches that on the scabbard, so the sword and scabbard are a period match, not a post war marriage. What is more, the blade has some slight nicks to the back edge, so the original French cavalryman probably did not fare well! Other than the slight nicks, which only greatly add to the piece, this sabre in in very good condition.
The 34 inch blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt / grip. The steel guard / hilt very good too. The original ribbed ;leather grip is good, but a little worn and aged; both brass grip “olives” are still present and firm. The original heavy steel scabbard is very good and the sword sheathes and draws well.
Well above average condition and inferior examples often sell for more (when you include the buyer’s premium / commission); no buyer’s premium here folks, just a great low prices of was £? (too late, now sold), well under market value. Please quote item reference ZY15. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1833 112x14x14 (3.275).
