From before regulation British patterns (models), this is a rare basket hilted variant by Woolley of Birmingham. Not a true basket hilt, but…….. Closer perhaps to earlier Walloon hilts.
The straight 32 inch blade marked “WOOLLEY” to the forte is aged but sound and firm in the grip. The hilt / guard amazingly has survived over 230 years and is aged but complete. The reeded ebonised grip is good. Scabbard absent.
Chances of finding and buying another? Practically zero. Yours for a paltry was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference ZY14. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1826-116x14x12 (1.195)
