The last of the so called “Gothic” hilt regulation patterns, the 1892P. Basically, identical to the long serving 1854p but with the new “dumbbell” blade (a straight blade with a large central fuller / groove which, if viewed point on, was reckoned to look like a dumbbell). Scarce because few were made given the period was a peaceful one for Britain with fewer officers needed, plus that the steel hilted 1895p/1897p came along shortly after and officers simply had their 1892p blades rehilted into 1895p/1897p hilts / guards, as the new models used the exact same blades. So, this is one of the few 1892p’s made which were not then converted into 1895p’s/1897p’s.
Etched at the ricasso / forte to “E Thurkle Maker Soho London”, a high quality sword manufacturer.

The 32 3/4 inch well etched blade is in good condition, some minor age discolouration streaks and wear (nothing much), firm in the hilt. The gilt brass hilt is in good condition. The black fishskin grip a little age faded but very good, as are the associated twisted grip wire bindings. The steel field service scabbard has age (patina) and a small ding near the chape, but is good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Reall very good example and from a top maker, and in VGC; £600. Further / full sized imagees available upon request. Box 2079 107 x 16 x 15 (2.087).
