Not only does this 1889P Staff Sergeant’s sword have a scarce steel hilt, but also a fully etched officer’s grade blade which shows the wealth of the army / regiment that bought it and the standing of the sergeant provided / issued it. The “VRI” to the guard’s cartouch and blade for India service actually is the abbreviation for “Victoria Regina Imperatrix” which translates to “Victoria, Queen and Empress”.
The 32 1/2 inch blade is supremely well etched and in exceptionally good condition, plus firm in the hilt. The steel hilt / guard is in very good shape, some age, etc. The fishskin grip is a little worn / aged but still very good. The steel field service scabbard is aged with staining etc but good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
