“Hang on”, you say, “Isn’t this a Belgian m1852 Cuirassier cavalry trooper’s sword?”. No, instead of having a straight blade, the m1858s, which were based on the m1852 heavy cavalry sword, clearly, have curved blades and “1858” marked to their blade’s forte .
If you like rare swords at a reasonable price, this one is for you! Matching guard / hilt and scabbard numbers too!

The long 35 1/4 inch blade is in good condition and firm in the hilt. The heavy brass hilt / guard is aged but in good condition. The leather bound grip has age / some scuffs, but is good, as are the twisted grip wire bindings. The steel scabbard (single suspension ring) is aged but good. The sword requires a shove to get it past the scabbard’s internal guide grommets (hence the markings either side near the forte of the blade) but otherwise sheathes and draws well.
Impressive rare sword at a bargain price, £600. Please quote item reference ZX81. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 2051 107 x 16 x 15 (2.689).
