The etching is feint, but clear enough to see the royal cypher of George V (under Tudor Crown for the Edwardian era). The coned pommel cap is what shows this to be a HLI (Highland Light Infantry) officer’s cross hilt broadsword.
The double grooved straight 32 3/4 inch blade is in aged / worn but good condition and firm in the hilt. The steel cross hilt guard is in good shape. The fishskin grip is good, as are the twisted grip wire bindings. The leather with steel ball chape scabbard is in good condition for its age. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Great HLI example in good condition, just was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference ZX71. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 2044 107 x 16 x 15 (2.131).
