Complete with Birmingham maker’s running dog / fox (opinion is divided as to which it is) with “S H” initials (for Samuel Harvey), this 1751P is engraved “M Cheshire” plus “7” over “59” for weapon 59 of the 7th platoon of the Cheshire Militia.
This sword is quite scarce by token of the fact it not only has a Samuel Harvey Running Fox / Dog, but also a very early British crown acceptance (“view”) mark / stamp; apparently crown over 5 (the number is partly hidden by the hilt), which proves the blades were first accepted / viewed and then cutled / made into a sword (the hilt added) afterwards.

The 24 1/4 inch period sharpened blade is aged / good but has a small number of very old nicks to the cutting edge, plus is firm in the hilt. The solid brass hilt / guard is aged with some scrapes but good; the inner bar of the guard has a join line which many of these have (meaning the line may be due to / part of the hilt’s manufacture). The spiralled integrated brass grip has wear etc but is good for its age. There is no scabbard.
Very nice Samuel Harvey 1751 pattern at a very fair price of £750. Please quote item reference ZX67. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 2057 88 x 16 x 15 (1.769).
