This 1860m saber / sabre is marked to “Mansfield (partly worn out) & Lamb of Forestdale R.I. (Rhode Island) at the forte, with inspector’s mark and date “US JM 1864” to the obverse. There are also several markings to the hilt which show this m1860 sword entered service with the Union Cavalry.
The 34 3/4 inch blade is in good condition save for the very smallest tip end is gone. Blade firm in the hilt. The brass hilt / guard is aged with a light tarnish patina. The original leather grip has wear, a small patch loss under the pommel one side (indictative of combat / field use), and has lost most of the twisted grip bindings. The blackened steel scabbard is aged / worn but good, though it has lost its small mouthpiece. The sword sheathes and draws quite well.
