Etched to military oufitters “H. Lehmann, Regency House, Aldershot” to the ricasso / forte, and with the officer’s initials “D. M.” to the blade, this 1821 pattern George 5th cavalry officer’s sword dates from 1910 (when George V came to the throne) and 1912 (when this pattern of sword was superseded by the 1912P).
The 34 1/2 inch deep etched blade has some age and wear but is generally very good and firm in the hilt. The iconic “ladder” steel guard / hilt has some age (some light speckling) but is also good. The fishskin grip has wear and the twisted grip wire bindings are absent in places. The leather field service scabbard has wear / scrapes and has lost its chape / drag, clearly through use (end now taped). The sword sheathes and draws well.
Lovely iconic cavalry sword, quite scarce George V version, just £400. Please quote item reference ZX40. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1996 107 x 15 x 16 (1.429).
