No British Royal Coat of Arms or Cypher, plus no maker’s or retailer’s name to the ricasso / forte; most likely a Scottish Infantry Officer who was pro-independence. Most likely this sword also WW1 era, maybe WW2.
The 32 3/8 inch blade is well grey etched, in very good condition and firm in the hilt (the hilt is removable courtesy the screw on / tightening pommel – loosen at your peril). The hilt (cross bar guard and pommel) is aged but good with the remains of the original scarlet tassle under the pommel (if you remove it, the pommel / blade may become loose). The fishskin grip is aged and worn but good. The twisted grip wire bindings are wayward in places. The leather field service scabbard and frog are aged but sound to good. The broadsword sheathes and draws well.
A really good and interesting cross hilt Scottish infantry officer’s broadsword. A worthwhile price at was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference ZX37. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 2024 107 x 16 x 15 (2.116).
