No serial number but Wilkinson are said to have made Gieves’ swords for them. The Gieves belts are by Appointment to the King, so the sword must be a very early ERII, circa 1952 therefore. We can find no information on N G Sharrock, the officer’s name engraved on the folding guard.
The 31 3/8 inch well etched blade has some patina and small light inert (black) rust pitting patches (mostly around the edges) but is generally good, plus firm in the hilt. The gilt brass guard / hilt retains much gilt and is in good condition; the folding guard section works well. The white faux fishskin grip has some tiny patches of base faux fishskin showing through the patent white surface but is good, as are the twisted grip wire bindings. Sword knot with a little age / wear is nonetheless good. Leather and brass scabbard is good, some light scuffing / wear. The folding guard locates onto the scabbard’s securing pin and the sword sheathes / draws well. The leather belts have age / wear / crinkles but are still good. The roeskin cover / bag is quite good.
