Wilkinson serial number 56183 for 1918. Retrospectively etched “LT COL E H COBB, LATE SAM BROWNE’S CAVALRY F.F AND INDIAN POLITICAL SERVICE”. Period etched with his initials “E H C”. Lieutenant-Colonel Evelyn Hey Cobb, OBE (15 September 1899 – 25 February 1972). Sam Brownes Cavalry Frontier Force.
The 34 3/4 inch well etched blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The hilt / bowl guard with some light inert rust to the edges is otherwise very good. The fishskin grip and twisted grip wire bindings very good too. The leather sword knot may well be a replacement but has some age and is very good. The leather fields service scabbard has some wear (scuffs, etc) but is good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Full provenance and an interesting officer for sure; his very good condition sword for a paulty was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference ZX28. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1997 120 x 19 x 16 (2.685).
