Late WW2 model in not the best condition, but authentic and with the original sword knot which indicates this Imperial Japanese army officer’s shin gunto katana / sword was taken off the officer, not a post surrender sword (as Japanese officers removed their sword knots if they could to save some honour). The blade, well, has pitting and has been mechanically cleaned up. The blade’s tang is well rusted and may be an older blade.

The 27 inch nagasa (cutting edge section measurement) blade has some pitting and much scouring from a mechanical cleaning, but is sound and firm in the tsuka / hilt. The hilt has replacement ito and same (grip fabric and rayskin), so is very good. The saya / scabbard is in poor condition with taped repairs. The locking mechanism works and the sword sheathes and draws well.
Not the best but at was £? (too late, now sold) it is a bargain. Please quote item reference ZX26. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 2026 107 x 16 x 15 (2.439).
