The blade’s spine engraved to Chatellerault, model 1822, and dated March 1915.

The 34 3/4 inch plain blade has age and wear (scratches, sharpening marks, crazed lines, small patina patches, etc.) but is good and firm in the hilt. The gilt brass hilt / guard has some gilt wear / loss but is nonetheless good. The blackened walnut grip has wear and surface black wear / show through, but is good; the associated twisted grip wire bindings are also good. The single suspension ring / band steel scabbard has age and some wear, but is once again good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Quite a scarce model for WW1, so well worth investing in it at was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference ZX23. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1986 111 x 16 x 16 (2.844).
