The blade’s spine inscription is rubbed; the date too feint to see now (just the 1855 model number and the front part of “Chatellerault”). The steel scabbard shows this sword was intended for field / combat service use.
The 30 1/8 inch blade is in good condition, plain (except for two poincons / inspection marks), with some aging (streaking etc.) and wear, firm in the hilt. The brass hilt / guard in very good condition. The walnut grip with tiny age related short hairline cracks, as to be expected, is nonetheless very good; the associated twisted grip wire bindings are very good. Steel field service scabbard with seeveral dings (small dents) commensurate with an actitve sevice history.
Really great example in very good overall condition, just £550. Please quote item reference ZX14. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1983 102 x 21 x 22 (2.355).
