Inscription to the blade’s spine confirms this is a July 1873 St Etienne made French Model 1866 Chassepot Yatagan Sword Bayonet.
The 22 5/8 yatagan style blade is in good but scuffed / worn / aged condition and firm in the hilt. The brass hilt is similar condition wise; the rifle locking mechanism is very tight (hopefully penetrating oil would help). The steel scabbard has more wear etc and a ding / dent near the chape. The bayonet sheathes and draws well.
Iconic French bayonet that has clearly seen an active service life; was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference ZX08. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1987 77 x 15 x 12 (1.669).
