Engraved “SC 91” to the pommel for Surrey Constabulary weapon 91, plus “91” to the hilt’s quillon, this sword model is often refered to as the 1850 pattern Victorian British police officer’s sword.
The 23 1/2 inch plain blade is in aged and worn condition (scuffs, scratches, small patina / light pitting patches) but generally good and firm in the hilt. The brass hilt / guard is very good; the scabbard locking pin head present (but the end part of the scabbard securing section is gone). The black fishskin grip is good for the most part but the section under the pommel on one side has gone. The leather scabbard with brass fittings is overall good but aged / worn and kinked with the start of a break appearing towards the chape. The sword sheathes and draws well.
