Plain bladed; either original or rubbed. Forte / ricasso etched to Gardner & Carver of London. Chemically browned steel field service scabbard with screw on pommel; probably circa 1900.
The modern replacement scarlet tassle covers a lot of the grip but the grip is equally good as the area you can see.
The plain (except for retailer’s details and proof slug) 32 5/8 inch blade is in good though aged / cleaned condition. Blade firm in the grip; caveat – the pommel is a screw on / off tighten / loosen type (be careful not to over tighten as this could damage the screw thread). Fishskin grip (faded) and associated grip wire bindings are aged but good. Tassle good. Steel scabbard with age and a few dings (dents) around the ball chape. The sword sheathes and draws well.
