Scarce unmodified Klewang made scarcer by maker marks “F S” to the forte. This Klewang 1898/1911m survived without the Japanese converting it to a “Heiho” (by cutting down / back the guard).
The 24 7/8 plain steel blade has a couple of minor period nicks to the cutting edge plus scuffs but remains in good condition and firm in the hilt. The swept steel guard has some age (inert pitting, wear, patina etc) but remains good. The wooden grip with age / wear is also good. The leather scabbard with brass chape is worn / aged but sound. The remains of the sword knot is falling apart / aged / worn, The cutlass sheathes and draws a little tightly but well.
