A scarce Edward 7th / Edwardian British RAMC (Royal Army Medical Corps) Officer’s / Physician’s Sword, knot, scabbard, leather carry bag and RAMC cane / walking / swagger stick. The sword blade etched with Caduceus (medical snake and staff) and to retailer “Ashford & Co 19 Ryder Street St James’s S.W. (London)”.
NB While army (infantry and cavalry) officers carried the latest sword patterns, the RAMC held onto the much more attractive 1854P brass “Gothic Hilt” sword pattern.
The 32 3/8 inch etched blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The gilt brass hilt with King Edward VII’s royal cypher to the cartouche is in very good condition also. The black fishskin grip and associated twisted grip wire bindings are both in good condition. The leather sword knot has age but is quite good still. The leather scabbard is good and the the sword sheathes and draws well. Leather carry case aged but still quite good. RAMC swagger stick / cane in good condition.
