We do not sell reproductions. How do we know this Japanese NCO’s shin gunto is authentic? The Bohi blade groove is the correct distance from the habaki brass blade collar, plus the markings are correct.
Matching serial numbers to the blade 128532 tell us that the saya is original to the sword and that it is late WW2. This gunto has the scarcer plain iron tsuba / guard.
The 27 1/2 inch blade is in very good condition and firm in the tsuka / hilt. The tsuka itself is good, some original copper colour on the aluminium remains; the saya locking mechanism works well. The steel saya (scabbard) has been cleaned of its war time paint. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Reproductions falsely described at auction sell for around the same; don’t risk it! This guaranteed authentic WW2 Japanese NCO’s shin gunto is in great condition and only was £? (too late, now sold).
