VGC (Very Good Condition). Very late WW2 era (note the lack of genuine rayskin and sunburst front section to tsuba). The blade is apparently a traditionally made Gendaito (unsigned, irregular hamon, etc.) and in full original polish. Plus you get the rare Kai Gunto belts to go with it (plus a couple of older naval belt fittings). Naval anchor stamps to tang / nakago.
NB / Caveat Being sold as a WW2 ERA sword as some Naval Landing guntos like this have been attributed to post WW2 / 1946 commissions for the US 8th Army allegedly made from gewuine WW2 stores spear parts.
The 26 inch nagasa (cutting edge section excluding habaki measurement) blade is in original polish, clear irregular Gendaito hamon, firm in the tsuka / hilt. The late war era tsuka has faux (fabric) same / rayskin and lacks a Japanese sunburst tsuba front section, plus only has one brass seppa (as such metals were in very short supply), but is very good. The lacquered saya is in very good condition; the gunto sheathes and draws well. The Imperial Japanese Navy Buckled belts are in slightly aged but very good condition.
Beat this Kai Gunto if you can! Just was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference ZW52. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 2156 99 x 13 x 13 (2.230).
