VGC means “Very Good Condition”. This VGC m1889 WW1 Prussian / German Infantry Officer’s Sword (with portapee / knot and scabbard) is marked “Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Cie Solingen” to the forte and “W16” for 1916 to the blade’s spine. This sword is a British / allied vet’s war trophy.



The plain 31 5/8 inch blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The steel hilt with Imperial Prusian eagle to the guard is in very good condition. The leather grip, bound with twisted grip wire, in very good condition for its age. The portapee is aged / faded / a little grubby / surface leather cracks but good, above average. The steel scabbard has lost much of its original blackening, but remains good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
