Except for the grip, which is missing the corded / leather strapped outer layer (cord fairly easily replaced), this is a very good condition Chinese Boxer Rebellion era Dao sword indeed. Circa 1900.
The 28 1/2 inch blade has some small patina patches, age and wear but is in very good condition nonetheless, plus firm in the hilt. The hilt with age is generally good; the outer corded / leather strap grip layer is absent. Scabbard with age / wear. The sword sheathes and draws a bit tightly.
