In the mid to late 19th Century, it was fashionable in many European countries to make “Revival” (German “Historismus”) swords of the Medieval and Renaissance periods; this is just such a sword. Most likely German or Danish, it is a revival of the swords in use around the 15th Century. Year of manufacture: Circa 1860. This a very quality antique sword, featuring Saint George and the Dragon on the guard.
The almighty 38 1/4 inch blade has some age but is good and firm in the hilt. The impressive iron / steel hilt / guard is very good but a section is loose (a spivot has worked its way loose – could be forged / welded / glued back in); the cast iron grip is particularly impressive. Scabbard absent.
A lot of sword in every way for only £550. Please quote item reference ZW09. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 2103 129 x 17 x 17 (3.874).
