VGC = Very Good Condition
1822 pattern = Gothic hilt, pipeback blade, folding guard.
Brass scabbard for a more senior officer.
Etched to retailer Clarke of Rochester, VR (Victorian cypher), tablet form etching to blade. The sword dates from 1837, when Queen Victoria’s reign started, to 1845, when pipe back blades were regulated out in favour of fullered blades.
The 31 5/8 inch well etched pipe back blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The brass hilt is in good condition, only very very slight distortion maybe evident, the folding guard section works. The sword knot is very aged and frayed. The fishskin grip has faded / is worn but remains good; the twisted grip wire bindings are a little wayward in places but good. The brass scabbard has a steady tarnish patina (could / would clean bright with TLC and a good brass polish / cleaner) and a few small dings but remains good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
The blade is exceptional and means we are selling this 1822p pipe back for less than we could / should at was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference ZW06. Full sized / additional photos available upon request. Box 2086 104 X 17 X 17 (2.35).
