Herringbone spine to blade marked “Berlin”. Etched blade feint and no maker’s details to forte. Circa 1900.
The 32 5/8 inch slightly curved blade is a bit aged (patina) and worn (etching feint) but nonetheless good and firm in the hilt. The steel hilt / 3 bar guard has a pleasing patina and is in good order; the leather thumb strap is aged and perhaps frail. The ribbed fishskin grip is very good, though with some age / fading, the twisted grip wire bindings are absent. The steel scabbard has some pitting and a few dents, mostly towards the chape. The sword sheathes and draws fairly well.
Good example of an iconic sword for £500. Please quote item reference ZW04. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 2085 104 x 17 x 17 (1.864).
